Memorial Nacho Barberà delivers €14,200 to IIS La Fe for sudden death research

The support from the Nacho Barberá Association over the last 5 years has allowed the continuity of research on familial cardiopathies conducted by IIS La Fe

The Memorial Nacho Barberà Association contributed €14,200 to the La Fe Health Research Institute (IIS La Fe) for the research on heart diseases and sudden death. The Alzira-based group raised this amount from the fifth edition of the Nacho Barberà football memorial, which the Valencia CF won for the first time. The funds were also obtained from contributions by individuals and companies, as well as from the sale of lottery tickets and the fees from the 300 association members.

Today marks six years since the sudden death that claimed the life of Nacho Barberà at the age of fourteen while playing a football match in Ontinyent. Since then, the Valencian Football Federation has improved the medical check-ups for the thousands of footballers within the regional entity. The sixth edition of the tournament will take place from June 14 to 16 at the Venècia sports field in Alzira.

The support from the Nacho Barberá Association over the last 5 years has allowed the continuity of research on familial cardiopathies carried out by the IIS La Fe. This financial support has been a lifeline to keep the research active. Thanks to these donations, the research team has been able to maintain the hiring of personnel and continue translational research on arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy and catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia, the major current focuses in basic research.

Since last year, the association's activities can be found on the website www.memorialnachobarbera.com. Additionally, starting today, the association has a new tool to facilitate economic donations from individuals and companies. It is the Sumamos Corazones website where anyone can donate directly to the research group at IIS La Fe working in the field of familial cardiopathies and sudden death.
