Genomic Unit

The Genomics Unit of IIS La Fe is a consolidated platform with more than seven years of experience, whose main objective is to facilitate the access of the scientific and clinical community to the new technologies of massive sequencing or Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS), conventional Sanger sequencing and molecular karyotyping using Arrays. The Genomics Unit collaborates closely in the development of research projects and genetic diagnosis of the different services of the Hospital La Fe of Valencia as well as of groups of the IIS La Fe and other hospitals or national and international research centres.

The new massive sequencing technologies cover a wide variety of applications in the field of genomics and transcriptomics: study of gene panels, analysis of complete exomes, analysis of RNASeq, CNVs (Copy Number Variation), etc. The main objective of the Genomics Unit is to continue expanding the portfolio of services and the number of users, being necessary to be at the technological forefront. For this purpose, this Unit has the latest technology in NGS sequencing, with two Ion Torrent sequencers (PGM and Proton) and an Illumina sequencer (NextSeq500), as well as a conventional Sanger ABI3500xl sequencer (Life Technologies).

The Genomics Unit of IIS La Fe is registered in the Autonomous Registry of Health Centers, Services and Establishments of the Valencian Community issued by the Conselleria de Sanitat Universal i Salut Pública (Generalitat Valenciana), with number 40242 and is authorized to carry out genetic care activities.

Collaborations

The Genomics Unit collaborates with research groups at IIS La Fe (Hematology and Hemotherapy, Molecular, Cellular and Genomic Biomedicine; Translational Research in Genetics; Joint Research Unit in Rare Diseases, Regeneration and Heart Transplantation; Hemostasis, Thrombosis, Arteriosclerosis and Vascular Biology; etc.) and various services of Hospital La Fe (Nephrology, Genetics Unit, Neurology, Cardiology, Pediatric Oncology, etc.).

It also participates in other research projects in collaboration with national and international centers such as Imperial College London, University of Murcia and Agilent Genomics.

The Genomics Unit has been a member of the Commission of Pediatric Precision Oncology of the Hospital Universitari i Politècnic La Fe from January 2017 to the present.
