Sumemos Muchas Manos por los Niños Enfermos marks its 10th anniversary and surpasses €370,000 allocated to childhood cancer research at La Fe

The organisation has donated €370,810.75 since 2015 to fund scientific projects aimed at developing new paediatric oncology treatments.

Scientific advances have made it possible for childhood cancer survival to exceed 80% at five years.

The association Sumemos Muchas Manos por los Niños Enfermos has allocated €370,810.75 to the La Fe Health Research Institute (IIS La Fe) since its founding in 2015 and has established itself as one of the most consistent citizen supporters of paediatric oncohaematology research at the Hospital Universitari i Politècnic La Fe.

Since 2015, the organisation has donated 100% of the funds raised to IIS La Fe to promote research projects focused on developing new treatments for children with cancer. These contributions support the progress of studies focused on neuroblastoma.

On the occasion of the organisation's tenth anniversary, the association presented a symbolic cheque with the total amount raised since its creation to Dr Adela Cañete, head of the Paediatric Oncohaematology Unit at Hospital La Fe.

Each year, nearly 1,000 families in Spain receive a diagnosis of childhood cancer, a disease whose survival rate exceeds 80% at five years thanks to scientific advances. However, clinical challenges remain that require sustained funding and resources to continue improving available treatments.

The association Sumemos Muchas Manos por los Niños Enfermos was created by Sonia Chenoll and Raquel Samper, who decided to transform a personal experience into a support network for scientific research. The organisation mobilises schools, institutions and solidarity groups that collaborate in awareness campaigns and fundraising initiatives to strengthen key research lines in the paediatric field.

"We created Sumemos to turn our pain into something that could truly help others. Seeing that our contribution drives treatments that can change lives gives us the strength to continue. Every euro that reaches La Fe is another hand joining the hope," said Sonia Chenoll, president of the association, during the commemorative event.

For her part, Dr Adela Cañete expressed her appreciation for the organisation's work:
"The support of Sumemos Muchas Manos is essential. Their financial contribution drives research, but their social support also accompanies our families and raises awareness of the importance of investing in childhood cancer."

The association's commitment has sustained, over a decade, a strong current of solidarity that strengthens the resources devoted to childhood cancer research at Hospital La Fe.

Among the researchers whose work has benefited from these donations are Dr Adela Cañete and Dr Jaime Font de Mora, whose teams are conducting research aimed at improving knowledge and treatment of neuroblastoma.
