IIS La Fe launches a series of outreach videos to bring animal research closer to the public

The initiative forms part of the II Activity Programme of the IIS La Fe Unit for Scientific Culture and Innovation (UCC+I), a project funded by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT).

The initiative consists of a series of eight outreach videos addressing different aspects of research involving animal models, including their contribution to advancing biomedical knowledge, the application of the principles of Replacement, Reduction and Refinement (the 3Rs), the work carried out by professionals responsible for animal welfare, the operation of the animal facility, the ethical and scientific evaluation process that every research project must undergo, the integration of the sex perspective in preclinical research, and the benefits that these studies provide for both human and animal health.

Using accessible language and an audiovisual format tailored to different communication channels, the series aims to increase transparency regarding the use of animals in research, showcase the work of the animal facility's technical and scientific staff, dispel common misconceptions, and raise public awareness of the ethical and animal welfare standards governing this type of research.

The videos will be released progressively throughout August via the IIS La Fe's official communication channels. Through this initiative, IIS La Fe reinforces its commitment to science communication and a culture of transparency, bringing society closer to an activity that is essential for the advancement of biomedical research and carried out under the highest standards of animal welfare, ethical oversight and scientific excellence.
