IIS La Fe secures over €254,000 in funding to promote Public Procurement of Innovation in the Valencian Community

The initiative will receive €254,316.33 in funding for the 2026-2028 period, representing significant institutional support for the institute's innovation strategy and its capacity to promote new collaborative models aimed at addressing healthcare system challenges.

This grant will enable IIS La Fe to strengthen and consolidate its capabilities in Public Procurement of Innovation (PPI), a strategic tool that allows public administrations to foster the development of innovative solutions a where existing market solutions do not adequately address identified needs. The project will also encourage collaboration with the Network of Health Research Institutes of the Valencian Community, promoting a shared methodology to drive innovation through the identification of real healthcare challenges.

Public Procurement of Innovation is a key instrument for accelerating the integration of innovation into healthcare by connecting the needs identified by patients and healthcare professionals with the capabilities of companies, technology centres and research groups. In this way, it contributes to the development of new solutions with the potential to improve healthcare services, optimise clinical and organisational processes, and respond more effectively to the needs of both professionals and patients.

One of the project's main objectives is to establish a structured pathway covering all stages of the PPI process, from the identification and prioritisation of clinical, organisational or technological needs to market engagement and support for the development of innovative solutions. This approach will strengthen the Valencian healthcare system's capacity to address emerging challenges and promote the development and future adoption of technologies, services and innovative solutions that respond to real needs.

According to Regina García, Head of the IIS La Fe Innovation Area and project coordinator, "this funding allows us to take a step forward. We do not want the needs identified by our professionals to remain simply as identified challenges; we want to have the necessary tools to transform them into innovation projects capable of generating real solutions."

She also highlighted that "Public Procurement of Innovation makes it possible to transform real needs identified by healthcare professionals into opportunities to develop solutions that provide value for patients, professionals and healthcare organisations. This project will contribute to consolidating a collaborative model that facilitates the generation and adoption of innovation across the Valencian healthcare ecosystem."

A shared strategy to strengthen healthcare innovation

In addition to reinforcing IIS La Fe's own capabilities, the initiative will promote a shared Public Procurement of Innovation strategy among the Health Research Institutes of the Valencian Community. To this end, common tools, methodologies and procedures will be developed to facilitate the identification and prioritisation of needs, market engagement and the development of innovative solutions.

This coordinated network-based approach will enable the participating institutions to leverage synergies, share knowledge and experience, avoid duplication and support the transfer and scalability of the solutions developed, facilitating their possible implementation in different healthcare settings across the Valencian healthcare system.

With the launch of this project, IIS La Fe strengthens its role as a driving force for healthcare innovation and reinforces its commitment to knowledge transfer, the development of innovative solutions and the adoption of new tools aimed at improving healthcare and citizens' quality of life.
