Tu Hospital Investiga: patients and researchers together in an outreach day on familial heart disease and sudden death

A new day of the cycle Tu Hospital Investiga brings together more than 80 patients and relatives with the research group Cardiopatías familiares, Muerte súbita y mecanismos de enfermedad (CAFAMUSME).

The Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria La Fe (IIS Las Fe) hosted the conference Tu hospital investiga organised by the research group Cardiopatías familiares, muerte súbita y mecanismos de enfermedad (CAFAMUSME). More than 80 patients and relatives were able to learn the importance of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and put it into practice in a risk situation, understand basic concepts about genetics and learn about devices that can detect heart problems.

Patients and relatives shared a day with researchers, clinicians, nurses and staff from CAFAMUSME and the Cardiopathy Unit led by Dr. Esther Zorio. A multidisciplinary team working to increase knowledge of familial heart disease and sudden death and improve the quality of life of patients.

The conference was attended by representatives of the Nacho Barberá Memorial Association, the Valencian Association of Heart Transplant Patients, and the Association of People with Heart Failure and Cardiovascular Diseases. 

The attendees participated in a CPR workshop developed by staff from the Cardiopathy Unit of the Hospital La Fe, which was made possible with the support of the Clinical Simulation Area of the Hospital Universitari i Politècnic La Fe, which provided the necessary material.

The managing director of IIS La Fe, Ainhoa Genovés, inaugurated the conference and pointed out that 'for the Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria La Fe, these days of direct contact with patients and relatives, that is, with the raison d'être of our institute, are essential to thank the commitment and altruistic support that helps us to research thanks to financial support, participation in clinical studies and the company that patients keep researchers company because they know they can always count on them'.
